Is this how it is?

Hi. Just wondered if someone could help me who’s maybe gone through the same. I have had 3 rounds of EC. The first was horrendous so they lowered the dose which was capable. I have just had my first of docetaxel + herceptin. First day very sore leg. Day 3 horrendous again. Feel like I have flu. No temperature but everything aches (even my teeth!) and I feel so lightheaded. I just can’t shake it off.
anyone else had the same experience?  Is this the new ‘normal?’Disappointed

  • I had Docetaxel and Cyclophosphomide chemo and had similar with the flu like feeling 3 days after each infusion. I was told it was the Docetaxel that does that. The aches seemed to work their way down my body, from my hips to my toes over 5 or so days - weird!! The flu like symptoms gradually go away and you get more energy - just in time for the next lot!! I had 4 rounds and found that it took longer each time to come out of the "flu stage". I am just three and a half weeks after the last one, still fatigued, but gradually feeling more normal with more energy.
The only thing you can do is rest, drink LOADS of water, take paracetamol to ease the aches and wait to come out the other end.
    Good luck with it Eden.

  • Thank you for your reply. It’s always so hard to get to talk to someone. You just want to know if others are having the same experiences.  Awful isn’t x

  • Hi Eden,

I’ve had three rounds of EC so far. The first was really tough, the second went surprisingly smoothly, but the third completely drained me. I had the flu for two weeks straight, severe pain running from my hip down my thigh, constant nausea, dizziness, and I couldn’t even move my head properly. The weakness was overwhelming. Tomorrow I go in for my final EC, and I’m doing my best to prepare myself mentally to face it all again.

I really hope your second docetaxel session goes smoothly—you’re very much in my thoughts.

  • So sorry to hear that. It seems everyone really is different. It definitely helped that they reduced my second dose of EC and steroids. It’s a shame they couldn’t have done that for you.
you must be so relieved it’s your final - although I’m not sure if you’re having any further treatment?

Thank you for the response and the support x
