Hi everyone

I have just been diagnosed with above, I have been to hospital from April 2025 complaining about lump to be told it was glandular tissue change due to hormones (menopause) I have just turned 49. Beginning of July 2025 the lump had got bigger from 4mm to 3.2cm. I was still complaining about "stingy" pain at my sternum. At breast clinic consultant said he go cut it out under local anastetic so I said yes, it was an abscess told him pain was still there. So basically within 5 weeks had local anastetic 3 times and breast cut open, general anastetic x 2, the 1st GA he explored and found a lump "hid" in my muscle at chest wall, 3 strong antibiotics and then told above diagnosis. Told they couldn't answer questions about prognosis as such a rare finding and more removal of tissue to be examined. I am still waiting on results and I am finding it really hard and so scared as they can't really explain it all.

Sorry for long story but if anyone has this or can give me some reassurance I would greatly appreciate it

Thanks

  • Hi  and welcome to the forum. Sorry you find yourself here and that you’ve had such a tortuous time to get your diagnosis. I am not surprised that you are finding the whole process difficult and scary, it’s horrible waiting for tests and results, and extra frightening to be told that you have a rare case. I wonder if it would help to phone the helpline here? Or post a question in the Ask a nurse section? I can’t offer much in the way of reassurance as I’m not a medic and I had a different type of breast cancer. But I would say that the medical team will be gathering all the information they can so that they can offer the best treatment plan for your particular situation. And I can certainly offer a big virtual hug. Keep posting here, ask questions, or just come here to vent! Love and hugs, HFxx

  • Thank you Happyfeet1, I really appreciate you reaching out. I have spoken with the NHS cancer nurses and phoned the MacMillan nurses and neither can give me an answer about spindle cell cancer and even the consultant was unsure how to explain it, just that it is rare and extremely aggressive and mixed with the Advanced lobular cancer will be challenging. Sending you a virtual hug back and hopefully you are doing well
