Hello everyone.

I have my yearly mammogram and MRI scan in 2 weeks time. This will be one year from my diagnostic scans. I have finished chemo and now awaiting radiotherapy.

The letter says breast with contrast both. Is that a scan on both breasts? And blue dye injected into both breasts to show up cancerous cells?

Does anyone know if it would be ok to wear my wig in the scan? It has some small metal hooks on it. I can’t bear not to wear it.

With regards to the mammogram, I think I remember my bcn saying it would be mammogram on the other breast and a physical on the removed breast and you don’t get results straightaway. Is that what anyone else has had?

  • I have never had a breast MRI but I have had multiple MRIs on my liver. To answer some of your questions, They will fit a cannula before the scan. The contrast will be put in through that part way through the scan so it shows blood vessels more clearly. It’s not the blue dye. An MRI machine is a large magnet so you can’t wear any metal within the scanning room, so unfortunately you will need to remove your wig if it contains metal.  You don’t get the results straight away - they are reviewed offline by a radiographer and a report is then sent to your consultant.
