I got my oncotype results today and its shocked me a bit. I am 43, and my score is also 43! This means I am being recommended to have chemo, which they hadn't been sure would be needed before. I was sort of expecting to need chemo, mostly because of my age but I wasn't expecting the score to be so high.
Anyway, I have an appointment with an oncologist next week and my head is reeling. All I can think to ask them is whether I can drive while I'm having chemo and if I need to get the flu jab.
Is there a list anywhere of things to think about before starting chemo?
Oh sorry to hear, make sure you have list of everything you want to know from oncologist.
Depends on the type i got told I'd fail an alcohol test as the one im getting means you cant drive
Plus it also depends how you feel after might not want to drive
Hope you get some answers and hope you are doing ok xx

Hi there
I had 8 cycles of Chemotherapy. 3 were EC and 5 were Paclitaxel. I drove and worked all the way through those and was never told I couldn't drive. Other types of Chemotherapy may be different though.
I was also asked if I had been given the flu jab which I had. I would think they would want you to have that. The other thing they asked me to do was to get a dental checkup because they would prefer that any dental work is done prior to chemo starting.
Depending on the type of Chemo also, there are other threads in here that talk about preventing damage to your nails. I never knew about that before starting mine and I lost a few toenails and my finger nails are sore and terrible looking (and my chemo finished at the end of July).
Side effects for everyone is different but I was extremely tired and quite weak so you probably won't be bothered with cooking etc, so maybe have a few things in the freezer you can pull out when you don't feel like it.
I also lost my taste completely and my mouth felt awful so I lived on ice lollies for a while and fresh fruit. Just tried to find anything to help the awful taste. You may not get that though.
Chemotherapy was no way as bad as I thought it was going to be.
Good luck with everything.
Hi
I’m 67 and finished chemo in May. I had a score of 40 which meant I had chemo and now am on Letrozole and Ribociclib to prevent recurrence. Chemo was unpleasant at times but not nearly as bad as I expected. It is manageable. I didn’t drive during chemo but only because I didn’t feel like it.
i wanted to know mainly about side effects, what to do about them and when to expect them , e.g. hair loss tends to happen early on in your treatment. To be honest the staff gave me so much information it was a bit overwhelming at times but does get easier as you go along.
good luck with your treatment x
