Waiting and worrying

Hi all, I am new here.

I found out on the 17th July that I have cancer, most likely breast cancer but they aren't 100% sure. I found a thickness in my breast that was tender so saw my GP who referred me to the breast clinic, I had an ultrasound and then a biopsy on my breast and lymph node because there was slight inflammation in the lymph nodes. When I went back for the follow up they told me the breast tissue biopsy had come back clear but there was evidence of cancer in my lymph. Which has apparently drained there from my breast area they just don't know exactly where. I've since had a mammogram, MRI and CT scan and I'm waiting for the results. My next follow up is on the 21st August and time is going so slow.

The doctor said they are treating it as primary breast cancer but they need to find where the cancer actually is and what type, stage, grade etc.

Not really sure what the purpose of my post is but I can't sleep and Googling isn't really helpful as I don't know enough to make sure I'm looking up relevant information.

I've never been good at waiting and it feels crazy to know I have cancer but I'm just doing nothing but waiting and trying to carry on as normal. I've just turned 36 and have 2 children, I am dreading the day I need to tell them.

Has anyone else been in a similar situation where you know you have cancer but have no other information?

  • Oh you poor thing.  I can so sympathise with you.  The worse part of anyone's cancer journey is the uncertainty and the waiting.  Waiting for results, for appointments.  Once you have a definite diagnosis [and prognosis if you ask for it] then it may seem unlikely but everything becomes much more manageable.  I really wish you all the best with your journey.  Lots of love, and take care, xx

  • Hi  , waiting for results and tests is just tortuous. I have seen posts here in the past (I’ve been rattling around the site for nearly 7 years!) where it was the lymph node that was initially found to have evidence of cancer, but I can’t remember any details, sorry. I’m sure you’ll get other responses here but if no one pops up in a similar situation, you might want to start a new thread with that specific question in the title eg ‘cancer found in lymph node but not in breast - anyone had this?’ Or something similar. Sending love and a big virtual hug, HFxx
