3 weeks after my lumpectomy I have remaining a large haemotoma in my breast that gets even harder in the evening with natural fluid retention. My nipple (not under the dressing) gets very sensitive and itchy stopping me sleeping. Any suggestions for dealing with this?

  • Hello

Have you spoken to your BCN about this? My nipple was really sensitive to the point where it felt painful and exposed, and the nurse suggested I gently massage it with some oil a few times a day. She said that it was partly because the nerves have been cut and are repairing themselves.

I have called the nurses a couple of times with various questions about my wound, and they have been very helpful, so may be something to do if you haven't, or to raise with them if you have a wound check coming up?

  • I’ll try. I saw her on Friday and mentioned it but she just it was the nerves, as you did. Oil sounds an idea to try. Thank you

  • I’ve just tried Eurax with some success! Will now check with MN  it’s OK to use…

  • I found that if I put loads of zero base cream on it did help the itching ( hospital gave me zero base) I put it on really thick and sat with no top on until it soaked in ( not a pretty sight Joy)

the itching did go away pretty quickly after lumpectomy but it’s back again after radiotherapy which I finished last week.

so it’s back to lots of cream again.

I did ask the chemist and they suggested an antihistamine cream but I didn’t want to use as it wasn’t what the hospital gave me.

  • Thanks - I’ll look out zero base cream for next time ( got to have same wound opened again plus a new one to get at nodes Frowning2️
