Hi there. So I got the all clear this week following lumpectomy. I have to have radiotherapy still but consultant has told me he wants me to start anastrozole now.
Im worried about the side affects, and this might seem silly, but it says that you will start bleeding when you start taking it. This would not normally bother me but I’m wondering if everyone does and how long you bled for when you started taking it. I’m going away start of August for 2 weeks and worried I will be bleeding still.
So just curious as to what I have got to look forward to once I start on these. X
Hello, just wondering why the Anastrazole and not tamoxifen. Anastrazole is usually given to post menopausal women. Good luck with radiation and hormone blockers. I had same treatment but was menopausal and no uterus.
Have fun on your trip?
Barbara
I am wondering this too. I know I had a blood test before surgery so maybe they checked hormone levels then. I was on hrt for 6 months prior to being diagnosed, so not sure!if I was pre or post menopause. I was going to speak to my GP about this once they started to prescribe everything as hospital said a letter would be sent to gp to prescribe.
I'm peri menopausal but have been told I will be on Anastrazole, so it sometimes is the case. I'd assumed it would be Tamoxifen, but I will be having Zoladex implants first to put me into menopause - due to my age the Oncologist thought this was the best option x
Hi Elizabeth71
I’m Daisy53 one of the Community Champions on this forum. I’m on Anastrozle and have been for over a year now. I didn’t start to bleed when I started taking it and I haven’t had a bleed since I started on it.
Wishing you he best of luck with it and enjoy your holiday.
Best wishes

Hi Daisy
oh that’s positive to hear, fingers crossed I’m as lucky as you.
Thank you. This holiday has been so uncertain but now I know we are going I am getting excited now. I’m looking forward to just relaxing and to try and forget this episode - well until I get home anyway! X
Hi Elizabeth71 , thought I’d join the conversation as I’m on Anastrozole. I’m older though, 59 at diagnosis and had menopause at 50 so that ship had definitely sailed! I started Anastrozole after my first oncology appointment, having already had surgery. Had 3 weeks of radiotherapy.
Re bleeding - as far as I’m aware it’s just one of many possible side effects and some people seem to have none of them. I had no bleeding initially but did once have ‘spotting’ - very minimal - after a year or so. GP took it seriously and sent me for an ultrasound (I do have a history of uterine polyps), but nothing untoward was found and it has not happened again. It was literally just a few spots.
Hope you have a wonderful holiday, love and hugs, HFxx
