Grade 3 Recurrence

I'm posting to see if anyone has had a similar experience to me.  I desperately need some positive thoughts...

I was diagnosed in March with a grade 3 HER2 negative, ER positive IDC. 1.8cm Lumpectomy on 16 April but tumour had grown to 3.5cm, margins satisfactory and recovery all fine, but Oncotype 45, so chemotherapy scheduled

3 days before chemotherapy was due to start I found a hard lump, which I thought would be fat necrosis.  The BCN ordered an ultrasound which confirmed another tumour.

So, chemotherapy cancelled and new surgery scheduled for next Wednesday, more than 2 months on from last treatment

The surgeon sorted a mammogram, ultrasound and CT scan the same day.  Relieved that the CT scan was clear, but I am very very anxious about the delay as I'm now looking at surgery next week, then a further wait for chemotherapy.

Has anyone gone through a similar experience?  Desperately need some positive news!

Thank you!

  • Hello, this must have been a huge shock for you.

I’ve not had the same experience, but I think that the positives so far, are that (a) you found the new tumour very quickly. That is something you should give yourself a lot of credit for. (b) you are having surgery to deal with it. I have had two mastectomies (the second one for symmetry), and I know that for some people this is not a positive thing. But for me it was. Maybe you might feel the same. (c) The lump you found was treated very seriously. That the surgeon ordered three scans for the same day was also a positive. X

  • Thank you

I'm hanging onto the CT scan being clear, although I know it's just a snapshot of the situation at that moment

I'd be happy (relative term!) with a double mastectomy now.  I now it does remove the recurrence risk completely, but would reduce the risk.

Head feels like it has a food mixer in it!

I'm just hoping next weeks surgery gets it all and that it hasn't spread.

Thanks again for your kind words x
