Hello,
I'm hoping someone may be able to help or perhaps identify with this if you've encountered a similar situation...although Ive been told its unusual!
I'm currently undergoing chemo (EC-T) for breast cancer (following a masectomy for local spread of BC with 1 lymph node involved) and have encountered a real issue with oral thrush/candida (& potentially oesophageal candida too - as the burning in my chest has been horrendous - this has been the main area of concern).
Due to the fungal/thrush/Candida infection that the chemo causes, Ive been too unwell to proceed with chemo (so dose and duration of chemo cycles have already been reduced) & its taken weeks of flucanazole treatment (at increasingly high doses) to try and get back to a point where I am well enough to proceed with chemo.
I just wondered has anyone ever encountered a similar issue please? Where candida infections have been ongoing and its been really problematic in terms of chemo?
At present the main suggestions from my treatment team are to reduce the chemo again (number of cycles and dose). I just wondered if anyone has been able to navigate this more successfully - so that you can proceed with chemo without the risk of a severe fungal infection escalating?
(Unfortunately they haven't been able to determine much about the type of candida infection I've had to date as I was prescribed fluconazole before any oral swabs were taken, so the swabs, after taking fluconazole, just come back with no result).
Thank you x
Hello Pepsi80
I am sorry I don't have any experience to help you, but as your post has dropped to page 2, I am replying to 'bump' it back to page 1 just in case a lady is around now who has a bit of information who can help you.
Kindest wishes, Lesley
Hi ️ I experienced horrendous acid reflux with my EC chemo, went to the GP and got prescribed lanzaprazole. This helped a lot! I imagine that is probably the intense burning you are feeling, I felt like my stomach was on fire and a constant burning lump in my throat, the acid was so bad it was actually making me vomit at points.
