Hi has anyone experienced smells that aren’t there whilst on HER2 treatment?
It probably started when I started Phesgo with a nasal drip and then the odd over powering smell of a musky perfume/incense- not unpleasant but strong.
Now I’m on Kadcyla and it’s def stronger the week of treatment but I get it for a few minutes a few times a week. Sometimes I’ll smell the incense smell instead of the actual smell. Like hanging the laundry today, I smelt it rather than the softer?
I was diagnosed stage2a Triple positive. 2 nodes involved, 1.8cm invasive and I guess I’m just panicked that this is an early sign of brain involvement. My next oncology is in 3 weeks so I’ll mention it but I’m scared. My logical brain says it’s a side effect of treatment, my fear says it’s spread.
Anyone else experienced this???
Hi TjGS welcome to the forum..I have heard of people who have lost their sense of smell and taste during treatment so I can imagine if your senses are altered then strange smells may not be so strange if that makes sense? It is normal I think for all of us to go to the worst case scenario when things happen that nobody forewarned us about. That said those smells you describe seem quite pleasant. However, to put your mind at absolute rest consider contacting your team and having a chat with them as they will be able to offer up explanation and a degree of reassurance for you. Best Wishes Gail

Hi Granny59
Yes I have been on Phesgo for three cycles with two cycles of Docetaxil and throughout it all to date I have a heightened sense of smell and taste. Food has become a challenge as it promotes a strong sense of nausea if smell gets anywhere near your nose.
Unscented lotions and cleansers, hair products have become a lie. I can smell most of them and have spent a fortune trialling them. I am now changing them again.
In my case it is a side effect. I do use anti nausea/sickness tablets given by the team and it appears to be working, but I am also learning what my stomach can take without the meds too. It is worth talking to the team and may even talk to a Nutritionist about balanced diets if you have food issues.
