Hello,
new to the group, but have found the conversations & support hugely helpful over past 5 weeks - thank u I’m 51, just over 5 weeks ago I found a breast lump - mammograms, biopsies and mri later confirmed mixed ductal lobular cancer - apparently this type is quite rare? MRI suggested more spread beyond lump than initially seen on scans but not in chest wall so booked for mastectomy on Monday - my ultrasounds and mri both show no involvement of lymph nodes but this will be assessed further by node biopsy - absolutely petrified it’s elsewhere but trying to remain positive
Hi there Passengerlass
I had a bilateral mastectomy in Jan, and like you had a mix of ductal and lobular in both breasts.
It's alot to take in isn't it! My advice, whilst easier said than done with so much information to compute, is to try to take things one step at a time rather than thinking too far ahead and talk to your breast care team - mine have been amazing, and made me feel like no question was too silly and that every emotion I was going through was completely normal.
I found the mastectomy and recovery much easier than I'd expected, so I hope it all goes well for you on Monday xx
Thank you so much, my care so far has been amazing but yes it’s such a lot to take in - good to hear the mastectomy op was better than expected - just feels like every time I see them the news gets worse - but will try not to think too far beyond what we know xx thank u, hope you are doing ok
Completely understand that feeling that the news gets worse everytime. Everytime I went for a biposy or scan they seem to find more and the treatment required changed. But now I'm further down the road, I know it meant they knew as much as they could about what they were dealing with, so I got the best and most extensive treatment. But I can't say there haven't been lots of tears and difficult days...I've always found the people on these chats so supportive, as they totally get it!
I'm doing ok thanks. I'm currently undergoing chemotherapy, which will be followed by radiotherapy and other adjuvant drugs.
Good luck xx
