Less than two weeks ago I was in a Macmillan Cancer Centre being told I definitely had cancer for the second time. Breast & lymph nodes.

Grade 3 stage 2 inflammatory breast cancer
Punch biopsy - waiting
ER + HER2 - waiting

MDT was last Tuesday

PET scan last Thursday

Plan of attack appointment is tomorrow and I'm absolutely BEEPING myself.

So far I've been told chemo, surgery then more chemo and/or radiotherapy. Not a clue what to expect as last time was just surgery then six weeks of radiotherapy.

Any advice?

  • We will be thinking of you tomorrow. I would expect chemo to start quite soon. Take a huge deep breath and write down all of your questions. I know it’s so hard but you will get through this like you did before x

  • Thank you tulip!

  • Yes, my her2+ cancer returned after 8 years.  Last time I had a lumpectomy,  then ec chemo, herceptin injections and radiotherapy.  This time i had to have a mastectomy because you can't have radiotherapy in the same place twice. 1 had 12 weekly sessions of Paclitaxel with three weekly herceptin injections.  I found it much harder than before but I am 74!  I finished the chemotherapy 8 weeks ago and I still have gastrointestinal problems and neuropathy, but I'm glad I went through it to give me peace of mind.  I will be having 3 weekly herceptin injections until December.  Like you, I was really worried about how I would cope, but I did it, and I am sure will cope too.  I can't tell you it was easy, but if you are younger than me you will probably be fine!  It's hard, but you can do it!  Best of luck! xxx

  • Can somebody translate this because I think I blacked out...

I know right breast. I know 3cm. The rest?

Diagnosis: Right screening detected breast cancer
    Right 30mm P5 M5 U5 G3 IDC ER 7 PR 8 HER2 borderline/not amplified
Redness and thickening of skin P3 M3 U3 punch biopsy - normal epidermis
    Metastatic lymph node

  • So it turns out it'll be

8 rounds of chemo over 3-4 months

3-6 weeks recovery then full breast mastectomy and the radiotherapy

ER+ (or HER what ever is oestrogen)

Punch biopsy borderline but surgeon & Pet scan are saying positive

    Lymph nodes positive

But the good news is IT HASN'T SPREAD!

  • In a horrible situation it’s good to know it hasn’t spread. This is how I felt when I got the results. Once you get started you’ll be crossing off the treatment weeks. Take care x

  • Thanks tulip. How are you doing?

    Love & hugs xxx

  • Did you have breast cancer previously? How long ago was that?

  • I’m doing ok, had mastectomy in Jan and now about to start my 3rd chemo (ec). I’ve going ec tough going. I then move onto weekly chemo for 12 weeks. I’ll be glad when chemo is finished!

  • No. My previous was SCC on my tongue. Same side though...9 years ago. Today's doc said 2 Cancer's on a short time. I don't call 9 years a short time but whatever
