I have been diagnosed with Breast Cancer with boney mets and have commenced treatment (oral Chemo). I have a holiday already booked for September and annual insurance runs out in August. Can anyone advise where to get holiday insurance please?
Hi McDonald1958 , there’s a thread specifically about travel insurance but I don’t know how to post a link…. Will tag latchbrook (hope that’s ok?) who I’m sure has posted a link to travel insurance info before. Apologies if I’ve got that wrong! Love and hugs, HFxx
I had a Spanish holiday booked for 4 weeks after I was diagnosed, 2 weeks before my planned surgery. Unfortunately my insurance company cancelled my insurance. I did ask them if they would just remove the cancer diagnosis from the policy but cover me for anything unrelated but they wouldn’t. After much gnashing of teeth, I went ahead with the holiday, relying on my GHIC card for medical emergencies. After my surgery but before radiotherapy, friends invited me to stay with them in Spain & I shopped around & found LeisureGuard would cover me because the tumour had been removed with a clear margin, therefore I was classed as cancer free. I have just renewed my policy with them and the agent told me an odd thing. Because I took the policy out directly with them, after 2 years they discard the diagnosis, but if you take out a policy through TravelSupermarket, they always expect you to declare it. Yes, I have to pay a little extra, but it does mean I can relax knowing I’m covered. Incidentally, Maggies centres are known to help shop around for suitable policies.
Hi McDonald1958
Unfortunately, it can be more difficult to find travel insurance when a cancer diagnosis is involved so please join us over in the travel insurance forum for cancer patients group to see the recommendations from others who have been successful.
Once you've joined, have a look through the threads there called 'Recommended Travel Insurance' and Recommended travel insurance 2023-24', which you'll find on the first page. They are full of recommendations from other cancer patients who have got travel insurance.
Thanks very much to HappyFeet1 for 'tagging' me into this thread.
