Hi I'm really struggling with side effects of Docetaxil and I'm considering telling my Oncologist no more. I've already undergone mastectomy, 4 rounds of EC and 1 round of Docetaxil. I'm to have 15 rounds of radiotherapy. I just don't think I can take any more chemo.
I'm sorry I can't offer much advice as I didn't need chemo. It will be worth discussing how you feel with your oncologist / your breast care nurse and ask for advice - if there's anything other than docetaxil maybe?
As I can't offer much in the way of advice, by answering, I'm pushing your question back to the top of page one as it had slipped to the second page and there maybe someone around now who's able to help you now.
(just to say - I had 15 sessions of radiotherapy and don't worry about this at all, it's a LOT easier than anything else. Often you didn't even know that you are being zapped!)
Kindest wishes, Lesley
Hi Fightlikeagirl
You should definitely talk about it with your oncologist!
I struggled through the EC, mainly quite severe nausea. 3 weeks following the last EC I started 12 weekly doses of Paclitaxel which did not make me nauseous so I was quite relieved though after the 7th infusion I did have the dose reduced to 80% because of pain in my toes. The reduction alleviated the toe pains.
i guess you should be able to find out what you might be gaining from the docetaxel terms of holding off possible recurrence, whether you need a longer break between the types of chemo, lower dose etc. and then decide from there.
I do agree with lesleyhelen that radiotherapy is a lot easier. Atmosphere great there as it’s full of people who haven’t had to have chemo, or have finished with it!
xx
Hi FightLikeAGirl
Yes I know what you mean. I'm day 7 of cycle 1 of docetaxil and it hasn't been pleasant. My worst days were days 3-6. I finally feel like I am coming out the other end. Still suffering but it's manageable. Finally had my first decent meal.
It is best to talk to your oncologist before calling it a day as they may be able to adjust the plan. That is the point of having the review before the next cycle. If you can't wait see if you can talk to the BCN. She might be able to assist in getting an earlier appt.
Hope you feel better soon
