E45 and scars

I'm currently 12 days post-op (lumpectomy and lymph nodes removal) and due to start radiotherapy in about 6 weeks' time. My BCN has said I should use E45 cream on my scars using it to massage the scars which will help healing. Just wondered how often I should do this? Once a day? More often? Would be interested to hear others' experience/advice.

  • My BCN said the same but didn’t give much detail. I do it after my shower on an evening and it is healing well. I had my lumpectomy on the 20th December and still waiting on my radiotherapy plan. I’ve had to wait longer as I had the Oncotype DX test to check I didn’t need chemo.

I'm told the scar needs to be fully healed before radiotherapy can start, and the moisturising of the scar will help, as your BCN advised.

  • Thank you Yorkie1961

I'll see how I get on with the E45. Scars are healing well but obviously want to do all I can to help recovery.

Hope you get your radiotherapy plan soon. I'm waiting fir my appointment with the radiotherapy team to find out what's involved but have been told it'll be 5 treatments over consecutive days. Xx
