Tamoxifen - Too hot ...too cold

I stopped HRT and started Tamoxifen approx 3 months ago. I have countless hot flushes in the day and wake up in a pool of sweat a few times in the night. When I'm not sweating, I'm so cold it's untrue. I wake in the night, my nose is cold, my body is cold, and during the day at work I'm wearing a cardigan and fleece because I'm so cold. I've gone onto Venlafaxine which has slightly reduced some of the day time hot flushes but  not enough to make much difference. I don't know how long I can put up with it Confused. Any tips anyone? Pray

  • Hi, I am one of the community champions here in this group. I am sorry I don't have any tips myself but thought this information from Macmillan might be helpful Link to Macmillan Info

I hope you find some relief from this soon, it sounds pretty frustrating, best wishes

  • Hi, sorry to hear you're struggling. My nurse suggested a cold gel thing you put in the freezer that then goes in your pillow case for night time hot sweats. You can then turn the pillow over if you get too cold.

Not sure I've explained them correctly but can't remember what they're actually called. Apparently they're cheaper if you buy the pet variety in somewhere like b and m.

Maybe a wheat bag for when you're cold so you've got the choice? Sorry I don't have any other tips. I too am usually cold during the day - unless having a hot flush that is, and night time start with the electric blanket on only to be throwing all the covers off next minute and back again!

Hope you manage to find something that helps you.

    Take care

  • Hi, have you tried taking the tablet at a different time of day? Sometimes that can help. I've also read that magnesium glycinate can help with symptoms. I've been on Tamoxifen for nearly three months.

    Good luck!
