I’m 3 weeks post single mastectomy, I was due to get my results today, the hospital rang me yesterday and said the red have been delayed a week.
people saying no news is good news, looking at cancer research sites etc all say normal time frame 1-2 weeks . This will now be 4 .
I was originally diagnosed 27mm mass er+pr+8/8 HER2- . I had CT scan after the diagnosis as the surgeon said he wanted to rule out spread to lymph nodes. They took 2 sentinel lymph nodes for biopsy too. He said he could do lumpectomy but was concerned about getting enough clearance. I had a lot of calcifications. I opted for the mastectomy. He said that was definitely the right decision after the op.
the delay had made me really nervous again, like I was after the diagnosis.
has this happened to anyone else ? If so what was your outcome? I know we are all different . Thank you in advance for any replies xx
Hi there. I'm 4 weeks post bilateral mastectomy with sentinel node removal. I have multiple IDC in one breast and a large ILC in the other and also er+pr+, Her2-.
Like you, my results have been delayed - 5 days so far, but no idea how much longer theyll take to arrive.
I did ask my consultant if he had any thoughts as to why, as its definitely peaked my anxiety and assumed must be bad news. He didn't know, but said possibly as I had a different cancer in each breast, could be that more complex . But he did say not to worry as it can happen and lots of reasons why it can happen, not neccessary bad...they want to be as thorough and get the most infomation as possible.
I'll keep everything crossed your come through quickly xx
Hi, my results were also delayed - I had an appt at 2 weeks post op, then 3 weeks and finally at 4 weeks I had my results - it was simply backlog rather than anything sinister. I was also really anxious and my consultant was cross it took so long. I have my fingers crossed for you that the results will be through soon. good luck X
1-2 weeks is usually for the biopsy results as this gives the diagnosis. A mastectomy is part of the treatment so results can take up to 6 weeks. ‘No news is good news’ is really not helpful. You will get a report, what it contains doesn’t impact on the speed that it will be done. You’re understandably nervous, but the time taken to get your results differs between hospitals and this is usually simply down to high workload, rather than indicating a good/bad outcome. Fingers crossed for you x
