Blood clots on lungs after chemo - mastectomy postponed

Hello, my mum was due to have a mastectomy this week but they have found blood clots in her lungs. I’m anxious that treating the clots will leave too long a gap after chemo finishing and operating but I suppose safer to wait until they have gone to operate? She’s on arovi blood thinner injections now. Grateful for any advice or anyone with a similar experience. She had 14 rounds of chemo and the tumour has shrunk but was in the lymph nodes and they may still be affected.

Thanks

  • How very scary for you and your mum but good that it was picked up on and is being treated. My post chemo mastectomy was delayed in 2020 by 3+ months. I had a reduced tumour but no known  lymph nodes affected. I am still here nearly 5 years post mastectomy and doing fine. Have a read of my profile. This cancer thing is rarely plain sailing. Good luck to you and your mum.x

  • Hi Anon89, sorry to hear about the delay in surgery for your mum. I finished my chemo early July 24, had my surgery mid October, so just over a three month gap. Have they given you any idea how long of a delay it might be? Xx

  • Thank you, I will read. Glad to hear you are doing well x

  • Thanks for replying. Hopefully a month or two delay x
