Hi, I've had a single mastectomy today. All went well, feeling better than I expected.
I'm worried about sleeping with my drain. Been advised to sleep on my back, I never sleep on my back. I normally sleep on my left, I've had the right side removed. So far, I'm managed to prop myself up on my left hoping I don't pull the drain in my sleep.
Anyone else struggle with the drain?
Thanks
Hi
I had a double mastectomy and came out with 4 drains. Working out my pillows and support worked for me. I also realised that it didn't last for ever||
My drains nestled either side of me. I was surprised how resilient they were.
It was a relieve when the drains came out|
All the best
Hi,
If you can, invest in a V pillow, found mine on Amazon, I couldn’t have slept without one post mastectomy, I’m now 6 weeks post op.I propped on my normal pillows so it was low enough to feel like I was half laying down but still on my back, I’m a side sleeper and did find it difficult initially but exhaustion took over and I slept eventually I’m still using it now I’m back to side sleeping to support the weight of whichever arm I’m not sleeping on.
The drain was a pain but bedtime felt a relief to just pop it next to me and not carry around in my little bag. Drain coming out was fine, couple of little snips on the stitches, bit of gentle pulling and it was out, was soo relieved to get rid of it. Good luck with your recovery and hope you get some sleep xx
