Dear All, I am just recovering from a mastectomy that was done on Friday. I have been told my results will be back in three weeks’ time, so I will know than if I need chemo or radiotherapy. I would rather be prepared before hand for this, is there anything I should be doing in the mean time to prepare physically for either of these treatments. Thank you so much for any feedback, sending lots of love and healing hugs xxx
I didn't do anything different to normal in the lead up to chemotherapy. I normally go for an hours walk most days, so continued with this before and during chemo, and I try and eat a balanced diet.
If you do have chemo you'll be told what foods to avoid as well as given advice about not having take aways, etc. During chemo I basically behaved in the same way as I did during Covid, wearing a mask if out in public, avoiding crowded places, etc.
Ahead of radiotherapy you'll probably be advised to moisturise on a daily basis but again, I just continued as normal re exercise and eating.
Wishing you all the best
Hi Sparkleandshine I was asked to attend a talk at one of the Maggie’s centres before starting chemotherapy. People unable to attend watched a video on their first day of chemotherapy explaining everything. The nurses also spent a while going through everything the first day I had chemo. For radiotherapy I saw a doctor from the radiotherapy team prior to treatment who explained everything. I then also had a planning meeting where I got my tattoos before treatment.
Every step of my journey has been explained to me really well by members of the various teams involved in my treatment. Good luck xx
Thank you so much for your reply that is very reassuring to know. I will see if we have a Maggie's centre near by as I have heard wonderful things about them. xxx
Hi, my oncologist told me that people who walk each day tend to cope well with chemo, so that's something to consider.
i blogged throughout my treatment and this one might help, it's things I wish I'd known before chemo. Best wishes
