Hi,
I had a sentinel node (one) removed and lumpectomy in September and the scar has just reopened for the 2nd time. First time was infection and guessing this is the same (will see gp tomorrow). Has anyone else had similar and was there any other treatment?
Hi Scabs welcome to the forum. I haven't heard of that happening twice but as you say both times an infection. It's clear it hadn't fully cleared up the first time to happen again so soon so maybe you need a longer course of antibiotics. I think it's worth asking the GP tomorrow why that keeps happening and do you need referred back to the breast team. Please let us know how you get on. X
Hello, sorry to hear that you are having issues with healing. Is it the lumpectomy incision or the sentinel node incision? I don’t know your age but as you get into your senior years healing does slow down as we have less collagen etc. Very important to have a diet with a lot of fruit and veggies as vitamin C is a vital factor for our bodies to make collagen. Good quality protein helps healing too. I am not a dietitian but just giving my advice as an older woman (76 in a week) who loves nutrition.
Another thing is to keep the area clean and dry. Now that the cooler weather is coming will be easier. Still so hot here in Florida that I can’t wait to get a chill!!
Take care and don’t despair. Hugs to you.

Thank you Barbara
im in the UK and it’s currently snowing!
diet is good but will look at adding more protein, good shout.
Hi, I too am having an issue with part of a wound healing. I had a mastectomy with diep flap reconstruction in October. My tummy wound goes from hip to hip and most of it healed nicely. I have one small section in the middle about an inch and a half long that opened up and I'm still being treated for this. Initially they gave me antibiotics as a precaution and redressed this small area. They then tried iodine strips, but these made no difference, as it was too deep. Now they are using a different dressing that sits inside the wound. It soaks up any fluid and turns into a jelly substance. There is no infection, it's just taking a long time to heal. I have to go for weekly checks and hubby changes the dressing in-between. It is slowly improving and becoming more shallow, apparently it has to heal from the bottom of the wound up. They did tell me to up my protein, so I drink a protein shake every day, just to give it a boost. I hope your breast care team can sort the this for you. Xx
