Any words of wisdom?!
I’m assuming I can drive myself in and out? And did you feel ok the day after?
and anything else I should know?!
Thankyou
Hi c22
I don't drive but that's only because it can be difficult to find parking places at my hospital.
I was fine the next day.
It only takes about 15 minutes for the acid infusion to go in and then a few more minutes afterwards for the flush to go through. If the nurse starts as soon as I take a chair, and they don't have any problems finding a vein, then I can be in and out in about half an hour. The thing that takes the longest is waiting for the dispensary to get my 6 months of Adcal tablets prepared!

Hi, I've had 5 infusions now, only the first I had side effects, about 12 hours after the infusion.
All the others I have been fine. I get a lift just in case though, but in reality have always felt OK straight afterwards
Doesn't take long to run the infusion through, my veins aren't great so can be a faff.
Hope it goes well. X
Hi. My appointment was 3pm, arrived early, 2.40 in the hope of getting out sooner as I had to do the driving, hubby has a op for a detached retina 4 days before my appointment, I have night blindness so didn't want to be going home in twilight.
I explained and they said they see what they could do, 5 minutes later they took me through. Had to have my in a bowl of water for 20 minutes no idea why as no one has ever had a problem finding a vein. 3 minute flush followed by 15 minute infusion. Waited quite a while for someone to come back to me. 7 minute flush, again waited a while. The nurse who came to remove the cannula had a coughing fit in the middle of doing it so had to leave me, resulted in my hand swelling and a huge bruise. Left 4.15, not a pleasant drive home.
Fine that evening. Woke at 3am with the starts of bone ache and a banging head. This gradually got worse, every bone in my body either hurt or ached even my eye sockets. The worse was the small of my back, my right hip and thigh and my groin. It had me in tears. I have a high pain threshold, 4 children, 2 were home births without pain relief. I'd sooner have quads than go through the bone pain again. Other than going to the loo or putting hubbys eye drops in, I stayed in bed. Balls of my feet hurt to walk. Resting heart rate around 100 and temperature just under 38.
Wednesday I felt much better so got up. I didn't last long before going back to bed. When I turned over from my left to right, I tried to move my left leg and it wouldn't move, shouted for hubby. He wanted to phone an ambulance, only because neither of us where able to drive, I refused point blank. In the meantime a friend was messaging me to check how I was doing. She told me to ring the unit, I didn't have the number, she got it for me as her hubby is having chemo. In the end I rang my oncologist, she said to phone the unit, which reluctantly I did, feel guilty as its the chemo unit and I haven't had chemo.
I was triaged and waited a phone back. I took more painkillers and slept, when I woke I was starving and felt fine, so much so I cooked a lush meal for us. The next day Thursday I woke with knee and thigh pain but managed a drive around lunch time as we needed bread, milk etc. As Tesco is near the beach we went for a walk, it did me good but not hubby's eye.
As of Friday a.m. I still have knee and thigh pain into my hip on my right, but that is where I have osteopenia.
Sorry for long reply, I didn't intend to, but feels better getting it all written down xx
