I’ve just completed my 12th cycle of Herceptin and this is my final one, I have a Zolodronic Acid infusion in two weeks which I’m dreading this will be my second one.
The problem I’ve got is I’m suffering with hip/back pain which started after my 11th Injection, it feel like it’s muscular and it’s not all the time.
Has anyone else had achy muscles and joints while on Herceptin and how long does it last?
Thank You

Hi - didn’t want to leave you without any replies - I’m have TCHP (inc herceptin) and my joints and muscles are achy all the time. The oncologist said “you’ll be feeling pain all over” which wasn’t that helpful - doesn’t stop me from worrying! I’m not sure if it’s the chemo or the herceptin bug could easily be the herceptin (Phesgo). Maybe have a chat with your breast care nurse?
I appreciate your reply thank you.
I think I had the same regime as you, Docetaxel Carboplatin, & Phesgo.
I think the steroids helped me massively with the joint painwhile having chemo, I have read the Herceptin alone can cause back/hip pain. I have phoned my BC nurse and she’s going to ring me back in two weeks, I’ve also seen my GP and having an X-ray on Monday just to rule out Osteoarthritis I already have Rheumatoid Arthritis anyway and it does seem to of coincided with the weather turning colder and me having an RA flare.
Thank you x
Hi Sasha, I am on phesgo injections, which is a combination drug that includes herceptin. I had been getting quite a lot of hip pain until recently. I went away on holiday and did 1/2 an hour of swimming, every day for 2 weeks. I have found that it has now greatly improved. Xx
Hi, I just wanted to comment on your zoledronic. My first infusion was awful, hit me like a bus. I've had 5 since and all the others have been fine with no symptoms at all. Weird, but apparently this is common. Best wishes.
Hi Daisy24,
Thanks for your reply, I’ve recently started swimming too and really enjoying it, and like you went on holiday and was swimming everyday.
I don’t seem to get the pain every day and my hip/back feels sore I guess and maybe a bit stiff sometimes, doesn’t keep me up at night.
I’m hoping it starts to ease, although I have the dreaded Zolodronic Acid infusion in two weeks which also causes joint pain.
I too have the Zoledronic acid infusion, so far only had one. Did make me feel a bit fluey the next day, but will be prepared next time. I did get really worried when first experiencing hip pain, in case the cancer had spread. Now it's gone away, I feel reassured that it's just a side effect. I'm in hospital at the moment, as I've had a mastectomy with diep flap reconstruction. Hopefully get back to exercising very soon. I wish you well on your journey moving forward. Xx
Hi, I've been suffering with leg aches and pains, but only in my right leg. I didn't consider that it might be Herceptin until recently. I've had 11 Herceptin treatments so far and as I already had the pains before my first Zolendronic infusion, I can't put it down to that.
I regularly have aching in my hip, lower back, down my leg, my knee and even sometimes on the top of my foot. Often it makes me feel sick it aches so much. I mentioned it to the nurses this week and will be discussing it with the oncologist at the end of the month.
I've had treatment from an osteopath and have started going to pilates classes to attempt to stop the aches. It seems strange though that it's only on one side....
Hopefully we will get some answers soon
Wishing you all the best

Thank you this is so reassuring, I’ve been so worried. I had read that the first one was the worst so hoping it’s not too bad, fed up with feeling rubbish
Best Wishes to you
Yes this is my worry which I assume is natural to worry. It seems to of started after my 11th Herceptin Injection I’ve now done 12 so done now, I’m hoping as the weeks go on it’s just gets less and less.
I’ve done lots of research and lots of woman have the back/hip pain so putting it down to that.
Thank you for replying and best wishes xx
