Good morning radiation buddies, I completed my 5 days of radiotherapy last week. So far I have coped ok but over the last couple of days I’ve developed several red spots on my chest. I don’t have great skin at the best of times but this looks more like pimples than the redness I might have expected. I am using E45 twice a day to moisturise my whole breast area as directed. Has anyone had a similar reaction? Do I need to speak to the radiotherapy team or my breast nurse? I don’t want to stop the moisturising but not sure how to deal with the spots. It seems such a minor issue compared to some of you lovely people but any advice would be welcome..
Hi WackyNY , I had a strange skin reaction to my 3 weeks of radiotherapy. Apart from the sort of sun tan, I had little scale things, a bit like blisters but not. They gradually fell off over the following months. They were certainly still there when I had a follow up oncology appointment 10 weeks post rads. They referred me back to the breast clinic, and the doctor there just said that they can’t predict who’ll have a reaction and who won’t, but remarked that my breast definitely didn’t like it. I also had a very sore nipple for weeks. But the ‘scales’ eventually all fell off, and the nipple hurt less after a huge scab fell off (sorry for tmi!!). It remains inverted but the skin is back to normal.
In your case, I’d carry on moisturising I think, but contact the radiotherapy team in the first instance as it’s so recent. Then the breast clinic if necessary. There’s no harm in getting it checked, just to be sure. Love and hugs, HFxx
Thank you HF, that’s reassuring. I am due to see the breast nurse in a couple of weeks so will wait until then and check with her. My nipple is still a bit sore but the spots are just annoying. I will keep on moisturising.
Thank you for taking the time to fill me in on your experience. I don't think you can give tmi! All info is useful
Sending warm wishes, WackyNY xx
Hi, the same thing just happened to me, just noticed itchy spots on my chest tonight after 5 days of radiotherapy finishing last week. Bit annoying but hoping theycwill go away soon. I also got some scaly areas and it is pretty sore still. All a bit grim really! If you are worrying about it it's definitely better to get it checked I would say, good luck with it all x
Janszham, it’s good to know I’m not the only one. Maybe I’m being a bit impatient but it’s all been a bit of a whirlwind and now my therapy is over, I can’t wait to get back to ‘normal’. I’m pleased to say I’m due to have a telephone appointment with the Oncologist and a follow up with breast care nurse after that so will have chance to discuss f the spots haven’t cleared up. Good luck x
