Hey all, so I found out I have the BRCA2 gene at the beginning of 2023 and have been on the waiting list for mastectomy and diap flap reconstruction for about 12 months, and needing to lose just over a stone to be eligible. I turned 40 this year so as well as my annual MRIs I got to experience my first mammogram, not a fun experience but glad as they found some calcifications. Had a biopsy last week, really not a fun experience and still bruised, and was given the results yesterday. I have DCIS which is a bit of a shocker but so glad they found it this early. I told them I’m still on the waiting list with a different surgeon, but if they won’t do the surgery sooner then I’ll have to have a lumpectomy and possibly radiotherapy. They said they would want to hold off on the radiotherapy if my other full surgery can be done cos it would mess it up. I’m now having to wait again til Monday to speak to the surgeon, which is killing me. I only have 1kg left to lose and I’m working my butt off to get it done.
If anyone has any advice on how to cope with all the waiting please could you share because I feel like I’m just coasting around the house.
Hi Dange84
Sorry to hear that you have the BRCA2 gene and was diagnosed with DCIS. I found going for a walk with my dog helped me when I was waiting for my results. I also kept myself occupied by doing things that I love like reading.
Wishing you the best of luck with your appointment on Monday.
Best wishes
