I’ve got one positive node
so radiotherapy suggested on arm pit area
but have been told1 in 10 chance of lymphedema so I should think about if I want to do the radiotherapy there (am having on boob too)
didn’t realize there was any risk of this
anyone got any intel on this. First I’d heard of it
Hello, since I was 71 when diagnosed with BC and it was a small cancer SLNB was not done. In US this is common. When I went for radiation though the radiation oncologist decided to do radiation on my lower nodes in armpit. He told me very low risk of lymphedema as doing lower nodes. It has been 2 years post radiation and all is fine. Had whole breast radiation on both breasts but only armpit radiation on left side as right breast had DCIS only and that does not spread.
Take care.
Barbara
Hi, I developed lymphoedema in the breast and like you, hadn't been aware of this risk. You might find this booklet from Macmillan helpful in explaining it a bit more. Best wishes
Gosh didn’t know you could get in breast- just assumed the arm. I will read Thankyou
