Hi all. Has anyone who has had anxillary node clearance after a week of no pain, it suddenly hurts under the armpit area. I had this over 2 weeks ago and for the last week the pain has stopped but suddenly today it’s started. Not sure if it’s due to the muscle being stretched as on the last set of exercises or whether it’s normal for the pain to come back.

  • Hello RKD

I hope you do not mind me replying as my cancer was endometrial. By doing so it will bump your post so someone experiencing similar will hopefully see it and reply.

I am sorry to hear that you are having pain in your armpit. Can I suggest that you give you CNS a call and ask about the pain. Hopefully they will be able to give you some reassurance about it.

Alternatively please do give the Support Line a call and speak with one of the nurses.

    The details are below.

I hope the pain is settling.

  • Hi. I had the same issue when I had the sentinal node biopsy. There was pain and a burning sensation which the Dr put down to nerve damage. I am currently using a little cushion under the arm which helps with the irritation. My daughters made this for me.

  • Get it checked. I had mastectomy and 80% lymph nodes removed 2 weeks ago today.

Bren told I need physio on armpit re cording ( can't raise left arm over head  due to cording and pain

  • Hi RKD, I am not sure yet whether the pain coming back is normal as I am due to have auxiliary node clearance on 4th July, following mastectomy and Chemo, which I completed yesterdayThumbsup

I have ordered one of the heart shaped pillows to help with comfort, as I did have painful cording following the mastectomy, but found a really good exercise online and the cording subsided within 2 days.

I hope you find some relief from the pain soon Hugging

  • Yes the pain stopped by itself which is good. Good luck with your surgery. After the surgery, do the exercises as soon as they advise. I initially only took paracetamol but did take codeine after which helped. Just keep pushing the movement when you exercise but not to the extent where it hurts too much and each day you should notice it gets easier. X

  • Hi

Would it be possible to post the link for the exercises online.

I have been doing the ones they have given me but struggling on some of them the advanced ones.

Didn't do them yesterday thou as spent hours sorting my wardrobe out and chucked clothes out and I think overdone it with stretching my arm out.

Not looking forward to physio appointment so hoping to clear the pain and cording before so therefore I don't need to go.

  • Hi Jackiewackie10, I will look this up when I get home in a bit and either post it on here or send you the instructionsThumbsupHugging

Others used this exercise and it helped more than the ones given by the Physio.

    Big hugs Hugging x

  • This is what I was given

  • Hi Jackiewackie10, I can’t find the link so the instructions are as follows:-

Stretch out the affected arm to your side with palm facing forwards.
Bend your wrist backwards as much as possible without causing too much pain and hold for a few moments.
Bend your elbow bringing your palm to the side of your face then wave your hand to release the tension caused.
I did this 5 times, twice a day and the improvement was almost immediate.

I hope this helps you. I have given the same advice to others in the past months who have commented that the exercise helped themThumbsupx
