Constant ovary pain on tamoxifen

hi,

Just wondering if there are any other premenopausal women on tamoxifen that have ovary pain as a side effect? I'm 36 and period started up again a year after chemo ended but getting very sore ovaries much of the time.  I have heard that in premenopausal women tamoxifen over stimulates the ovaries so I guess this side effect is to be expected to some extent.  Just didn't know to what extent and wondered if anyone could share their experiences?

Thanks

  • Hi LucyP

While I’m not on Tamoxifen as I’m post menopausal I noticed that you haven’t had any replies yet so I thought I reply to you to move you to the top of the discussion. Hopefully someone will be along shortly with an answer for you.

    Best wishes

  • Hi there. I'm 37 and about 8 months into taking tamoxifen daily. The side effects vary as I'm told by many who've been on this drug, including my oncologist. In my case, like you, I have random ovary pain and cramps that feel like period pain but it usually goes away after a few hours. Every 3 months or so it leads to my period, which is probably the worst pain and delibitating feeling ive experienced in my life when this happens. In the first day or two i just cant seem to move and have to force myself to stand up. My worst is the fatigue and body aches, some days I don't feel human and it's really weird when you used to be a very active someone. So I guess it is normal, well for us anyway.

  • Thanks for your reply.  Sorry to hear you've also been having some awful side effects with tamoxifen.  The ovary pain is so painful isn't it.  Mixture of sharp pains that take your breath away and sore aching. That sounds really awful for you how painful your period is for you. It's awful to be so debilitated like that like when you say you are used to being active and capable.  Have you tried acupuncture for the body aches? I find it helps a bit.

  • Thanks for the kind words. It does take some getting used to to make sure you don't let it take over your life, but it reminds you that you have to slow down and listen to your body. I've tried a few things to help, they offer temporary relief. Haven't tried acupuncture specifically but thanks for the suggestion, I'll look into it. Good luck xxx

  • Have you checked this with the BC nurse, she will be able to advise x
