Hi,
I had my first Zoledronic acid infusion on Friday.
I remembered my nurse specialist mentioning they'd prescribe calcium supplements for "a few days" to take afterwards.
When I went in, the team didn't have them so I was prescribed some to pick up on Monday. All great, except I have no idea how long to take them for.
The pharmacy label just says 1 twice a day. Google suggests 5-10 days or "as your doctor recommends".
I've been given a months worth of Adcal-D3.
I have called the oncology advice line yesterday and today and left a message both times, but no one has called me back. I don't have a phone number for the nurse specialist.
So, on the assumption I'm not going to get any information can any of you lovely folks tell me when you started taking them and for how many days?
I don't have an appointment for over 3 weeks, and that seems too long.
Thanks.
This has got me thinking! I have been taking Adcal x2 per day since I started zoledronic acid. I have 3 more infusions to go so thought I’d be on them until at least then. I will check next time I go.
Hi Gilliebean, my nurse specialist told me to buy vit D supplements and take them all the time, but to stop when they give me the Adcal after the infusion. I know others get prescribed their vit D, etc. and have been surprised I needed to buy my own - so I don't imagine you've got it too wrong.
Hi, I’m also having zoladronic ancid infusions six monthly. My oncologist prescribed Letrozole and cacti-D tablets for ten years and that was at our first meeting before I was told about zoladronic acid infusions. My advice is get in touch with your oncology team and ask if you need them. Then ask for them to write to your gp for it to go on prescription.
best wishes. M x
Hi, I’m on zometa infusions 6 monthly and letrozole. I take 1 Adcal in the morning and 400 vit D which I buy in the evening at present. I have had my bone profile bloods done 6 monthly and this dose reflects my blood results. They may change medication after my next blood profile in May.
I don't think I'll need them all the time as my blood levels have been fine all the way through.
I think these are just a boost of calcium post zoledronic treatment, as this infusion causes a drop.
If I needed them from the start I'm sure they'd already be prescribed, as I've been on letrozole a while now.
Hi
im 2.5 years into treatment with zolendronic acid. 6 months to go. Been told to take 1200mg calcium daily from the start. As I understand things (simply) the infusion strengthens your bones by pulling calcium from the body/blood, and it’s important that you replace it.
