Hi,
I had my first Zoledronic acid infusion on Friday.
I remembered my nurse specialist mentioning they'd prescribe calcium supplements for "a few days" to take afterwards.
When I went in, the team didn't have them so I was prescribed some to pick up on Monday. All great, except I have no idea how long to take them for.
The pharmacy label just says 1 twice a day. Google suggests 5-10 days or "as your doctor recommends".
I've been given a months worth of Adcal-D3.
I have called the oncology advice line yesterday and today and left a message both times, but no one has called me back. I don't have a phone number for the nurse specialist.
So, on the assumption I'm not going to get any information can any of you lovely folks tell me when you started taking them and for how many days?
I don't have an appointment for over 3 weeks, and that seems too long.
Thanks.
Hi,
I had mine 2 wks ago. I was already on Acrette for osteoporosis. I don't think taking them for 3 wks will do any harm, especially at this time of year when vit D levels are low. It so hard getting advice. The place I had my Zoledronic acid infusion said I could call then if needed. Could you ring them and ask?
Hello there, I would suggest taking them as prescribed until your next infusion. It is all to support your bone health while you are going through your treatment. My zoledronic infusions is now every 3 months and I do get prescribed vitamin D top ups too.
Try not to get stress. I would suggest to write down all your questions, changes in your body so when you see your nurses next time you can discuss with them. Before you know it will be time for your next treatment.
Sending healing cuddles your way.

Hi I’ve finished treatment now but I was given adcal and told two a day ongoing .This was reduced to one a day when bloods checked . Onco said I could continue if I wished after treatment finished .just ring and ask team or onco secretary
I've had 30 days' worth of ad-cal after each infusion. My dosage was one, twice a day. got the 'tutti frutti' flavour chewable chalky ones. All prescribed by oncology and given to me on the day.
It is wise to question treatment. I have problems remembering things if I don't reminding myself. Remembering to do the blood test 2 days before the infusion, is an ask, esp when it's only every 6 mths. COVID test as well. Good job I was a Nurse until retirement or I would be lost. My son is Epileptic and Autistic with other complications. All the meds he is on takes a lot of my functioning data base ie brain power, to keep him safe. I am such a fighter when I need to pull it out though. Keep asking, they are all so busy though. Did you ask a nurse on here yet?
Thanks, that's the ones - yummy fruit sweets...
As you and others say a month - and that's the box I've got I will keep going.
Thanks for the responses.
