Bra advice please for asymmetry following reconstruction

Hi everyone,

Have had a unilateral mastectomy and reconstruction - implant side is obviously much perkier than my remaining natural breast which needs a bit of a boost to match the implant under clothes.  Anyone else have this issue?  Chicken fillet moves around too much and I thought getting a padded bra with removable pads would be a good option so I could take out the pad on the implant side, but can't find one anywhere (other than in the crop top bras but I'm looking for a more traditional bra).  Surely they must be out there somewhere!  Or is there an obvious answer to this I'm missing here?  Any recommendations welcome please x

  • Hi, I don't have the answers myself, but as the site is pretty busy I noticed your post has dropped down a bit. My response will bump you back to the top of the chat and hopefully someone with the right experience will be along soon. Best wishes

  • Try Pour Moi - they do some lovely bras and often have the removable inserts, not 100% if they do in ones that aren't underwired though?  I have used them a lot before diagnosed with breast cancer (underwired plunge) - looks like bra shopping is going to be even more of a headache than it was before after my SMX and reconstruction!

Do you mind me asking what implant you went with and how you are getting on with it?  I have already had a lumpectomy with licap, then further re-excision and now scheduled for SMX as still no clear margins.  Don't want Diep so looking further into implants..

Would be interested to know how you get on with your bra hunt too !

    xx

  • Thank you RosieToes - I'll have a look at Pour Moi.  Have resorted to my wandering chicken fillet at the minute!

Sounds like you're going through a tough time of it.  Hope it will be all done soon for you.  I have a saline implant and I'm doing ok with it.  Had no problems healing whatsoever and a year or so on the scar is barely visible.  It does sit slightly higher on my chest wall that I'd like but hey what can you do.  I think that's a common issue. Hence the problem with the asymmetry, the implant looks much fuller and higher and of course it does not move!.  I know some people say they feel cold, but I'm not aware of that, maybe I've just been lucky.  On the whole, I'm glad I went for the implant, like you I couldn't think about having a Diep - all personal to each of us of course.

I'll let you know how I get on - would be good to find something that evens things up and most importantly is really comfy!

Good luck with your ongoing treatment x

  • I've also just thought, try Bravissimo, they have stores and are online with very helpful customer service, they do some post surgery underwear, slightly limited range of colours (bright red I found!!) but very pretty.  They have some with 'pockets' for prosthetics, which may keep your 'chicken fillet' from wandering at least ! xx
