Do they always fit a Picc line? The thought of it makes me feel queasy. I’ve got to have chemo (not sure when it’s starting) was diagnosed on 21st December and wondered if they can administer via cannula instead?

  • yes you can have it through a cannula .I had a picc line fitted and it was so much easier to have the chemotherapy you soon get used to them in the arm I had 12 treatments  and I had mine in for 18 weeks it took some getting used to but after a couple of weeks it was fine.  The oncologist advised me to have one fitted because of the amount of chemotherapy treatments to make it easier on the veins .  The weeks soon went and 2 months on I forgot about it now.

  • Thanks for replying it’s the fitting and thought of it. So overthinking everything at the moment.

  • I am a proper baby with needles but to be honest it didn’t hurt to be fitted . I was terrified but I just done some deep breathing and took myself off to a sunny beach and when they took it out I was so glad to see the back of it,it didn’t bother me. I have done my chemotherapy, it so much to take in , take it a step at a time try not to worry honestly it’s not that bad take care xx

  • Hi, JaneyM1. Please don't get too worried about the picc line insertion. I've had 2 at different times over the yrs because I have terrible veins and I felt absolutely no pain during the procedures. Chemo is very harsh on your veins, and a picc line can save you a great deal of discomfort. It felt a wee bit strange for a week or so but I hardly notice it now. Good luck!

  • Sorry, I think I've replied to the wring person, but the msg is still the sameGrin
