IDC grade 2, HER2 negative , HR 7. Positive x1 lymph node. Diagnosed last Tuesday.
The plan I have been given is to start on tamoxifen immediately, lumpectomy 17th January, definitely radiotherapy and possibly chemo depending on pathology/confirmed stage. Has anyone else been given the same sort of plan? I’m struggling to get my head around why they don’t want a scan, why surgery is so long away, why not start treatment straight away??
Hi there yes fairly similar.
Multi focal tumours in boob.
Started with letrozole, then mastectomy.
Pathology showed in one lymph node.
Now just over half way through chemo then I think radiation and Phesgo injections and tablets. At least, I think that's the plan.
I had surgery put back as they found more lumps unfortunately and I was very concerned it was all taking too long.
However, I had to trust as they are the experts so tried to go with the flow for the most part although I have had some dark moments.
I've been looked after well and I think once a plan is in place you can see a little more hope, at least that's my experience.
Hi,I am sorry you have received a cancer diagnosis . Everyone’s cancer is unique and I am not an expert but my understanding is that if you are hormone positive the tamoxifen will reduce the oestrogen in your body that the cancer needs. There are 2 hormones oestrogen (ER) and progesterone (PR). The number is how much hormone is in your cancer- 8 is the highest number on the Aldred score. If your cancers ER levels are 7 then the tamoxifen should be very effective. Usually there is a MDT meeting (multidisciplinary team meeting) prior to commencing any treatment. I don’t know why your surgery is not until the 17th January, it may be they can’t fit your surgery in until then or it may be the surgeon wants you to have tamoxifen for a month prior to surgery. You will have been given a number for a breast care nurse, these ladies are very helpful and will be able to look at your specific case, she should be able to answer all your questions.
I found the first couple of months after my cancer diagnosis the most difficult, as sometimes the treatment plan can alter as more information is gathered. My cancer was stage2, grade 3, Her 2 negative Er8, Pr5 and in 2 lymph nodes. I had a lumpectomy and total node clearance. I did have an MRI scan prior to surgery and had chemo and radiotherapy but my hormone treatment didn’t commence until after chemotherapy. As mentioned earlier I am not an expert and if my understanding is not correct please fellow members of this forum correct me.
Hi I have her2+ so have started with chemo as others have said it will depend on your type of cancer etc. I know some ladies haven’t had to have chemo at all so fingers crossed for you on that one.
I will need surgery after my chemo then radiotherapy at least that’s the current plan and I asked why they could just operate and was told that surgery is just one part of treatment and that shrinking and containing the cancer is sometimes a better outcome and can make surgery less invasive.
hope you get yours planned soon. Good luck with it all. X
Hello, so sorry to hear your experience. The waiting is certainly hard and I do relate to that. Whilst youre in the situation it is difficult to see the positive. But for me on reflection, they were being thorough and were doing their best to make sure the treatment is right for me. I am three weeks post surgery and getting my results today. My surgery was pushed back 4 times because each time something else popped up that needed investigating. In the end I had 3 biopsies, MRI and another biopsy after that!
Whilst I’m no expert however I noticed that every treatment is different and specific to individuals. I have however used information on here to ask many questions about my treatment because there have been times when I feel like my plan so far is so very different from many others I’ve read. For instance , I was told there is not much benefit to chemo for low grade ER/PR cancer which I have yet I’ve read many plans similar to my diagnosis including chemotherapy. So today when I go in, I will ask more questions.
Best wishes in your journey, I found ot does get easier
Hi Katy37
Welcome to the forum and I am sorry to hear that you have been diagnosed with breast cancer. I'm surprised that you aren't getting a scan as you have lymph node involvement, I would query that with your breast care nurse.
Wishing you the best of luck with your surgery and with whatever further treatment you need.
Best wishes

Thank you everyone. I contacted the nurse and she requested a scan for reassurance. I had a CT with contrast yesterday and today they’ve called to book an appointment next Wednesday for the results. Now ’m spiralling because that can only mean bad news right? I cannot cope with this level of anxiety and can’t help but think the worst
Hi Katy37
Sorry to hear that you are struggling at the moment. The fact that you have an appointment so fast after your scan doesn't necessarily mean that it's bad new. I had my appointment a week after my ct scan and it was good news there was no spread
I'll keep my fingers crossed for you that it's good news.
Best wishes
