I had a mastectomy at the end of October, I saw oncology again two weeks ago. He said I’m cancer free since surgery but he wants to give preventative chemo and herceptin injections. I was born with spina bifida and hydrocephalus and am confined to a wheelchair. I have many health issues because of my disability. I live with my elderly parents who have both had strokes. There’s no way they could help me deal with chemo side effects at home. I’m thinking about not having treatment.
My heart goes out to you. My mum had a stroke and died 3 months before my cancer diagnosis. I had chemo and herceptin injections. Must admit I benefitted from support from family but you could try the chemo and stop if it is too much. I had a reduced dose, ask if you would benefit from a reduction. If you don't have the chemo still have the herceptin that for me was practically side effect free. I had a very runny nose which they didn't even recognise as a side effect. Also go and see or call the MacMillan nurses they will be able to point you in the direction of where you might get some additional support. Wishing you all best
