Hi all,

Has anyone experienced the above whilst on Letrozole and if so how/did it resolve?

I've only been in Letrozole  for about 6 weeks and this is the most debilitating side effect thusfar. It's only the right thumb being affected and has gradually gotten worse , pain sometimes wakes me at night and just putting any amount of pressure, i.e. pushing, holding, pulling, opening things makes it very painful. It's very stiff and swollen and especially  "trigger" like in the morning.

I am thinking of seeing my GP about it, but wondered what other people have done too.

Thank you.

  • Hi, not to the same extent, but I have found I am much more clumsy, dropping things for no reason now. I also get painful knee and ankle joints if I don't walk enough.  The gift that keeps giving….. Best wishes

  • Hi, I have this too in both thumbs , been on Letrozole for 9 wks

My oncologist says its common , only another 9 years 10 months to go Rofl

however, my neighbour gave me fresh turmeric, sliced like carrots & frozen. I put about 6 pieces in boiling water to infuse for 10 minutes twice a day

absolutely no joint pain in my thumbs at all now since doing this in last 3 weeks, definitely worth a go

    good luck

Great, thank you - I will definitely try this!

So do you use the pieces wrapped in something and apply to the thumbs?

  • Do you use it as a tea?

  • Hello FlowerN,  I have osteoarthritis in both thumbs and have been on anastrazole for 18 months.  My thumbs hurt and I am not sure if it just the progression of the arthritis or if the Anastrazole has made it worse.  I have splints that I wear at night and have done that for years and it does help some. I sometimes use ice and sometimes heat depending on how I feel and what I have done.
It can be very debilitating as I have issues opening jars and have a tool to help me and also hubby.  I am independent so like to do things myself but just need to give in sometimes.
I would recommend you see GP and get a diagnosis . Always helps to know what your condition is and the best treatment.

Oh, I've just realised you meant to use as tea, didn't you?? I presume you would have checked with your Oncologist if its OK to yate alongside the Letrozole? I remember something about not taking Turmeric alongside I think it was Tamoxifen and not Letrozole? Thinking

  •    thank you!

I'll definitely try and make a GP appt today, like you say it's so hard to not be able to do certain things! I was so fit and healthy, with no underlying medical conditions whatsoever prior to this whole nightmare come crashing down on me Pensive Cry

  • Sorry, didn’t state the obvs did I !!

infused in boiling water, drink as a tea, tastes ok once you get used it it

you can also add fresh ginger if you have nausea

  • My oncologist said it’s fine with Letrozole & abemaciclib but check with your team as we are all different

    good luck with your treatment
