ER positive score and treatment options

Hi ladies,

I hope you are all doing well. I just wondered if anyone else is ER+ and HER+. I've had a call with oncologist and she's said that as my ER score was 3/8, so not strongly hormone positive, she didn't think that taking Tamoxifen would have any significant benefit to me. She said the likely side effects would probably outway the benefit but ultimately it's my decision. I've had mastectomy, clear noded and margins, followed by chemo ( two left) and Herceptin injections for one year to continue. I was just wondering if anyone else had any experience? Chemo seems to have stopped my periods so I don't know if I'm now classed as full menopause and so perhaps the drug Anastrozole. On one hand I want it all done and don't want to take drugs that won't help but then there's the what if!

Thanks for listening to my rambling! As I near the end of chemo I seem to be worrying more, not less! Xx

  • Hi Moomin48, I’m triple positive. Whilst on chemo my periods stopped even though I was no menopausal. They didn’t start up again when I finished chemo and during radiotherapy. I was put on tamoxifen and the only side effect I have is the hot flushes (which as far as I understand one gets with the menopause anyway) From what I understand tamoxifen is given if you haven’t started the menopause and then letrozole or Anastrozole if you’ve been through the menopause and not had a period for a year. However your oncologist will know what best for you given your history. I decided to go with tamoxifen to try and prevent reoccurrence and was told this was the appropriate one for me at the moment. After a couple of years they will check my hormone levels to see if they are right for me to change to different post menopausal drugs.
    Wishing you all the best.

  • Thank you, that's really helpful. I think I'll have a chat with my oncologist again before deciding. Xxxx
