After initial soreness following my lumpectomy last week, today my breast feels a bit more sensitive. It’s aching and feeling like a burning sensation. I wondered if this is the normal healing process. Has anyone else had this?

  • Hi Celie welcome to the forum. Does your breast feel hot to the touch and red looking at all? If so this could be the start of an infection and you would need to see your GP.  If none of these are present it may well be worth giving the breast nurse a call and see if they can have a look at this for or the GP to get checked out and offer some re-assurance for you..

  • Hi Gail,

    thank you for your reply.

There doesn’t seem to be any redness or heat, just a bit more discomfort and I wondered if this is expected as my wound heals and the dressing starts to pull a bit more.

I think I’ll get in touch with my breast nurse as you suggested, that seems only sensible.

    Thank you.

  • I think I might have had some sl burning. It might be the healing process. I would get some advice. That's literally what they are there for. I went back a few times.

I sat in A & E yesterday. I had a chest pain on Monday Eve. Nothing showed up in the tests. The sternum is a bit sore but improving. I had radiotherapy in Feb. I hope you get an answer soon. X

  • Thanks for sharing.  I’ll get in touch with the breast nurse.

    Good luck. X

  • Thanks for replying. It’s probably just the healing, I’ll speak to my nurse.

  • always best to ask just in case and for peace of mind

  • My lumpectomy is six weeks post operation and still get twinges and sone sharp pain, but hopefully all healing process. I have attempted contacting nurses and left messages to arrange another ultrasound for piece of mind, my oncologist said this would need to be completed prior to radiotherapy. However, no one is calling me back, so I’m thinking of going back to GP for fast track again, I need to get it sorted so I can move on x
