it’s been 5 months since lumpectomy and I have hard skin (fibrosis), lumps from scar tissue, and I’m wondering if anyone was advised to self massage the areas to promote healing. I did radio after surgery and am currently doing chemo.
Hi iman
I wasn't advised to do self massage and I still have a few lumps/bumps from radio or scar tissue. I guess there's no harm in doing it, if it makes a difference and doesn't hurt to do so. (I am 6 years past diagnosis now and don't overly notice them, but I do know they are there, if that makes sense).
Kindest wishes, Lesley
Hello, yes when I was done with radiation I asked radiation oncologist about massage it and he said to do it. I started it 3 weeks post radiation per his orders and did it for a year but have started up again and will keep doing it. I had told my ARNP at my yearly visit that my breasts felt a little soreness at times and she told me to self massage. Here is a link that shows you how. It really worked for me. Breasts are soft and no lumps.
