Mum was diagnosed with a 1.2cm Er+ Grade 2 Breast Cancer in March. She was unable to have surgery due to a recent blood clot so started on Letrozole. By June the tumour was down to 0.9cm. By August she was off blood thinners and consented to surgery. She underwent surgery 25/10 and had her tumour which was back to 1.2cm removed and SNLB. Mum had 6 nodes removed during this. Has anybody had that number removed before? It seems quite a lot. I know her op was late in the day and they missed the lab so couldn’t get any results that day. Mum is 81
Hi Byebyejimmy, sorry to hear of your mum’s diagnosis. I had a lumpectomy and 2 sentinel nodes removed. At the time my surgeon said she would take out all the nodes that showed up with the blue dye and radioactive material that I had had inserted. I think everyone is different and we all have a different amount. I then had to have an axillary clearance where they removed all my nodes from my armpit and there I only had 12. Again as everyone is different I understand one can have up to about 40.
Wishing your mum all the best.

Hi cuffcake2000, thank you for responding to me. The mind starts wondering especially as we were told we would receive results on the day and then the operation was started late and they missed the lab.
I hope that you are doing well now after your clearance and wish you the best xxxxx
