I have HER2+ breast cancer. Have ticked off chemo and surgery. Started on Kadcyla chemo and this Wednesday 18th Oct started Radiotherapy, 15 rounds in total. I'm having breast, lymph and area around my collarbone treated.
My neck is very sore due to positioning but I can cope with that.
I woke up early hours of Saturday with pain/discomfort on my left side where I had treatment. I tooks some painkillers paracetamol and managed to get to sleep.
Since then the pain has increased. I did some light house work and went for a walk this morning. I was nearly in tears by the time I got back home. My chest is hurting me on touch, movement and even breathing. Paracetamol doesn't seem to make a difference. Am I meant to be in this much pain after only 3 treatments?
I know we are all different and the treatment will affect us differently to. Any advise would be great. I'll be talking to the staff when I go tomorrow. Can't say I'm looking forward to visit.
Hi Klee65 , I don’t really have any advice to offer as I had skin issues rather than pain during and after my radiotherapy. But wanted to reply and send a very gentle virtual hug. Definitely speak to the team tomorrow and I’d also say that if you feel very worried about the level and nature of the pain, maybe consider phoning 111 for some advice? They may not be able to give much advice as you really need the hospital teams help but am assuming you can’t contact anyone there on a Sunday. Also you may be able to phone the MacMillan team for some advice although I don’t know what’s available on a Sunday. How horrible after getting through most of your other treatments. Love and hugs, HFxx
Hi Klee65, I had 15 cycles of radiotherapy with added boost on each. At the time I didn’t suffer but now 5mins ha down the line my bones are very tender across chest, collar bone, sternum and ribs. I was checked by my oncologist who has said it is a reaction to the radiotherapy which can last for a while.
When you go for your next session tomorrow definitely let them know. They should be able to advise,
As you said we are all different and treatments will affect us differently. Some of us seem more sensitive than others to the treatments.
After each of my sessions I used Aveeno and aloe Vera gel too. The aloe Vera was good for the redness and soreness (burning sensation like sunburn).
Wishing you all the best.

Hi Cuffcake.
Thank you for your response.
I was meant to have 18 rounds the last three boosters but as the tumour was too close to my heart not having them, which at the moment I really glad about. I will tell them today. Doubt they can do much, just keep taking the paracetamol and not try to do too much with this arm.
I've been advised to use E45 cream, which I'm applying 2 x a day. No redness yet, but was told that may not happen till at least half way through.....
Watch this space
