Hi everyone,
I was diagnosed with lobular breast cancer on the 21st August , I battled to get my MRI brought forward from 6 weeks to 4 weeks. I then battled to get my results back from a 5 week to 4 week wait. Then when I went for results it’s a whopper lesion of 72mm which means it’s potentially spread to other areas. I’m booked in for single mastectomy on 10/11/23. They say the delays are because they are a breast surgeon down. I just wondered if this is the normal timeline as others I know have been dealt with much quicker.
Thanks
Hello SK94 sorry about your diagnosis and the club no one wants to join. I have had the same issues and diagnosed 30th June with invasive ductal 30th June. Lumpectomy 13th September and results tomorrow. They have told me it’s the back log and nothing they can do about it unfortunately.
A friend has told me they have private healthcare insurance but not able to use for breast cancer. When asked why they were told because of the NHS fast track service sone private insurance no longer do it!
We all agree on here that the waiting times are long and the most anxious times for everyone. Keep us all updated how surgery goes and we are all here for each other x x x
Hey PALMS,
Thanks for the reply. Yes the waiting is the worst. I don’t really like being a nuisance but my sister said in this instance you have to be. If I hadn’t I would be waiting another month. They haven’t replaced the breast surgeon who is off so under more strain.
Good luck with results , sending my best wishes to you. X x
I’m sorry to hear you are having such long waiting times. I think it’s a bit of a postcode lottery with treatment etc. I was diagnosed the end of July , surgery end of August . First oncologist appotment end of October. I was told at my initial appointment if I needed radiotherapy there was at least a 16 week waiting time
Leeslans123 yes I think you’re right unfortunately. I’m glad however you’ve got sorted quickly, but that is a long wait time for radiotherapy. They’re hoping to give me at least 1 cycle chemo before Christmas , so just have to hopefully heal quickly after mastectomy.
Wishing you all the best x
Omg I haven't heard of that. Maybe because my private health insurance is Bupa and I used a Bupa hospital I had no issue at all getting initial diagnosis and surgery privately. I got diagnosed and had surgery within a month of me finding lump. I have them used NHS for adjuvant chemo and gone back to private for radiotherapy - my issue being that my health insurance is a benefit of my job with a financial cap on it of 50k a year. Radiotherapy alone was about 18 and a half grand.
Hi-I was diagnosed end of Nov 22 and didn’t have mastectomy til end of Feb due to additional biopsies, MRI’s etc that were needed.I’ve read about people having surgery quicker than me, some the same length of time and some longer so I think it’s really variable.Wishing u all the very best with your surgery.xx

Glad you got sorted quickly. Best wishes to you xx
Sorry to hear about your diagnosis. The wait is hideous. I was diagnosed on 12th Sept, then had the MRI 30th Sept, surgical appt 12th Oct and my surgery has been booked for 15th November. It’s quicker than for some but it’s felt like it’s dragged on forever. I know they’re all working so hard to get through all the patients too. Wishing you the very best xx
