Shoulder pain - possible after radiotherapy?

I had chemotherapy, surgery (lumpectomy) & radiotherapy for triple positive bc. The radiotherapy finished just before Christmas 2019. Afterwards I realised the burn had gone through to my back, but that settled down after a few weeks. Now, within the past few weeks, I can feel exactly that same discomfort in the same place. There is no visible sign on the skin but I a, wondering if this is damage from the treatment. I also get intercostal discomfort below the treated breast so I do know there is some damage. Has anyone any experience of these types of late side effects?

  • Hi, I had some late effects on and off since finishing treatment, but not sure if it can reoccur after time.  You could give the lovely folks here at Macmillan a call on 0800 800 0000 and have a chat or contact your radiotherapy Dept as they should have a late effects team to discuss with, I saw our local hospital late effects team this week, they are great.  Best wishes

  • Thank you for the helpful advice. I’ll see if we have a late effects team.

  • Hi I finished radiotherapy two years ago. About 9 months afterwards, I got achey pains in my shoulder and collar bone (I had radiotherapy on my collarbone as well as armpit and chest wall). I was convinced I had mets. My GP saw me that afternoon and examined me very thoroughly, feeling the areas, as well as just about every remaining lymph node in my torso. She said that what I described was a common later effect from radiotherapy. I was offered a CT scan, and it was clear,
As Irishgirl16 says, I would speak to the radiotherapy team, who might be able to arrange something for you too. Xx
