Just had the following diagnosis this week

9.5mm lump.

Non invasive ductal carcinoma grade 2

Er/pr+

Her2 -

Have been told lymph nodes look normal on ultrasound and have been told very small highly treatable cancer

Also been told probably a lumpectomy and 2 lymph nodes removed radiotherapy and endocrine tablets but could be further treatment if lymph nodes involved.

Would just like to hear from people in similar situation and how they are getting on. Its been a bit of a shock to say the least but am hoping it can be sorted.

  • I was diagnosed three weeks ago. I’ve just finished scans and biopsy’s. I’ve to see oncology on Tuesdays discuss surgery/treatment plan. I have  same type as you and also the invasive kind stage 2. I’m 49 and I’m confined to a wheelchair because of lifelong disability.

  • Hi and welcome to the forum.  Sorry you have been diagnosed. It is not somewhere any of us wanted to be.  It will take time to get your head around it all and accept it.  Give yourself that time.  Once you get your plan and a date sorted for your lumpectomy you will feel more in control.  I was diagnosed in July, caught early at a routine mammogram.  Told it was invasive ductal carcinoma, grade 2, 7mm and as you E/P+ And HER2-, and very treatable.  I had my lumpectomy early August and sentinel node biopsy.  It was fine, nothing like my imagination thought.  Got results 4 weeks later.  Nodes all clear, downgraded to grade 1 which was great news.  Was healing well.  But unfortunately had to have a second op as not clear enough margins, which I had  2 weeks ago.  Just awaiting results in a weeks time.  But they said only 10% of women usually need that.   But it is all doable and not as bad as you think.  The emotional side is probably the hardest part to deal with and the waiting game.  But you will get there.  I wish you well with your treatments.  Please let us know how you get on. Sending hugs xx

  • Mine was already in some lymph nodes before I got to clinic. They told me before I left the clinic on my first visit that it was 90 percent positive for cancer. The consultant phoned 10 days later to confirm cancer. There were issues picked up with ultrasound on my other breast as well so I’m waiting on biopsy results.

  • Thankyou all for your replies. It's an absolute roller coaster isn't it. Everybody's story is so different . I had to wait nearly a month for result of mammogram and biopsies..  the anxiety has been awful.

Please keep in touch and let me know how you all get on

  • That must have been a shock being told before you left  the clinic, can’t have been easy.  I had to wait for my biopsy results for 2 weeks, but I did have a gut feeling somehow, that it was not going to be good news.  I wish you well with your results and with your treatment plan, take care xx

  • Hi,

I was told 2 weeks ago I have grade 2 invasive ductal carcinoma following a screening recall that arrived the day I found tethering (end of July). It was a 2 week wait for the biopsy and a month wait for the results. I have a 16mm lump and needed an MRI to look at an area of concern next to this lump. I was told it was early and treatable. Today I was having a follow-up ultrasound and found out that there are a total of 4 lumps and have had further biopsies done. I see the surgeon next week to confirm a plan with a potential surgery date of Oct 31st. I am unsure if the original plan of lumpectomy with radiotherapy and hormonal therapy on this date will still be the plan, but what will be will be.

Some days I feel I'm getting my head around it, then something else comes out and I'm back at the start of the emotional rollercoaster.

    We can do this!

  • literally got the results yesterday, small cancer area but there are pcis cells in the breast as well so mastectomy booked for 12th october, so glad i had the routine mammogram which picked up on this, but my god just feel numb, husband has been amazing and trying to be strong for him, so much help and advice out there, terrified what my chest will look like.

    thinking of you all x

  • Hi there,

Mine is similar to you, I had two areas of non-invasive DCIS removed yesterday. I had a lumpectomy wire guided. The wires were not the most comfortable to have put in but with breathing techniques perfectly doable. Surgery was fine and I'm sore but quite comfortable. The relief I'm home and fine keeps me grinning. The whole team were incredible, so helpful and clear.

    Best wishes to you

  • Glad to hear your surgery went well fifibeeuk, it must be a relief to be through it. I will be having a wire guided lumpectomy. I went for my pre-op yesterday but still waiting for the surgery date. The waiting is hard I feel very much in limbo at the moment. I hope your recovery goes well.

  • Gosh wire guided. I feel I have so much still to learn. I am not sure of my treatment plan yet but hoping to know soon. Good to know. Are there different types of lumpectomy. I feel like I know nothing just when I think I know something about all this.

ggod luck and wishing u a speedy recovery
