I am due chemo round 2 on Thursday (today is Tuesday). I am starting to take antibiotics today for a throat infection. Does anyone know whether this is likely to delay my chemotherapy? Can you have chemo (EC drugs) while on a course of antibiotics? I will discuss with my oncologist on Weds at my pre-cycle appointment, but want to mange my expectations.
I would think likely you may have to delay as your bloods might show infection.
One thing to ask and don't want to frighten you - Have you checked the antibiotics you have are compatible with your anti sickness meds. Only asking because I got given some and when (curious as I am) I checked them out on NHS website it turned out that had i used my prescribed anti sickness meds they could of reacted with the antibiotics. So I had to call my red card team and get alternative anti sickness meds. They said could of cause heart palpitations!
I've been in a similar situation before. Before my chemotherapy, I had to take amoxicillin, and I was able to proceed with my treatment without any issues. I ordered amoxicillin from them - health-delivery24.com/buy-amoxil-uk.html, because it was important for me to get high-quality medicine, and this pharmacy has never failed me yet.
That said, it's great that you're already planning to discuss this with your oncologist. They’ll be able to assess how the antibiotics might interact with your treatment or if they could affect your immune system response. It's important to follow their guidance, but in general, as long as the infection is under control and you're feeling okay, chemotherapy might not need to be delayed. Keep your oncologist informed, and hopefully, they'll provide more clarity during your appointment.
Hi
I caught a throat infection and sinus infection just before my second EC cycle and was put on a 5 day antibiotics. After a discussion with my team I still went ahead with the second cycle as the infection went.
I then caught another infection a few days after 2nd cycle and before last EC and was put on iv antibiotics and then a 7 day antibiotics. My team still went ahead with the 3rd and last cycle and concerned with immune system being practically none existent.
I did have lengthy discussions with the oncology team as I had concerns too.
All I can say is talk to your team
Take care x
