Stomach cramps and post steroid slump

I have just had my 2nd weekly TCHP chemo. The first two days after chemo are fine when I am on steroids and anti nausea meds. But then I crash. My mood slumps and I have stomach cramps, nausea and real fatigue that no meds seem to help. I feel like this for a few days, get one day feeling okay and then it’s time for the next round. I hadn’t expected to feel this bad this quickly into the process. I had a lot of chemo 30 years ago (3 weekly) for a different cancer and I was expecting weekly chelp to be slightly “kinder”, especially as my Onco team had told me it was a slow grind down with weekly rather than this pattern. Does anyone have any experience of this or advice they can give me please?

  • Hi, sorry to hear you're struggling with the side effects. Might be worth talking to your BCN about the anti sickness meds.  I tried a couple of different types before I found one that worked. I also found the 5th day after chemo was the worst for me but I was on a 3 weekly cycle, not weekly.  I also tried to get out walking every day, no matter how bad I felt, even if it was only 10 mins, and I think that helped with the fatigue. I hope you get into a better routine of this soon.  Best wishes

    1. Thanks again for your helpful reply. I actually tried a different anti-sickness med this afternoon and felt quite a bit better so I’m hoping it’s that rather than me pulling out of the bad patch. Great advice about getting out walking, I’m trying to do that almost daily. I’m lucky to live by the sea, so I find it’s good for the body and soul. Really kind of you to send such reassuring messages.
  • You're welcome snd glad the other meds seem to be better
