Hi everyone hope you’re all as well as possible

I have been taking letrozole with Prostap and Abemaciclib since Jan / Feb

Mu question is mainly about letrozole I have been trying to figure out the best way to take it , brand / time of day etc . Well that worked somewhat for a while but now the side effects are getting worse , my joints feel ruined , every part of me hurts , my joints are very painful , especially my knees and I wear a wrist support now too

Does this sound familiar to anyone , is it normal for the SE to get worse after this amount of time ? I’m in my forties but I feel so much older and it’s dragging me down . So do I try and stick it out hoping things will calm down or should I ask to be swapped to another AI ?

Love and support to all xx

  • Aw no I’m sorry you’re feeling it too

it is reassuring that other people have similar SE even though they are pretty rotten !

  • Hi

All you fellow Letrozole suffered. I took same brand for 11 months yes joint pain but went off with moving around . Then I  struggled to get it so for 3 months took a different brand and developed a frozen shoulder left side and now my right wrist is strapped.and very painful.Gettibg dressed and undressed is no joke.Rage

Having injection into shoulder under x-ray and local next week. More pain. So fed up with struggling every couple of months to try to get the brand that suits. I am scared to change in case worse effects.

  • I'm on exemestane and at about the 4 month point, I developed extreme wrist pain which lasted about 6 months. I even got a steroid injection into one of them. Then it went away. I have sciatica pain now but I've found stretching to be very helpful. I was never going to stop taking a hormone blocker, but I did wonder for a while if I would have to reduce activities. I try not to overdo repetitive things, but other than that, I am pretty OK. I've been taking it for over 2 years now.

  • I hear you ! I’m sorry you’re in so much pain and discomfort too . Currently my left wrist is strapped up and my shoulder and ribs are sore on the surgery side !
    sending hugs xx

  • Interesting to see how many other people have the same problem as me. I had a double mastectomy in June '22.  I'm 78 and been on Letrozole since last June and will be having bone infusions for 1.5 more years, I didn't have chemo or radiotherapy. But I have awful pains in my arm(s) which are worse when I wake up and my back's uncomfortable. Also I've had a cough since I started and it makes my throat uncomfortable. I was sent for an X-ray and MRI but nothing found in my lungs. I changed brands and found Accord better for the hot flushes but am going to ask my GP to put me on Femera as I read it's better. But there's no guarantee I can get it as it depends on the chemist. It's interesting to read about those of you who are brave enough, and old enough, to risk not taking Letrozole - I don't think I am.

    Good luck to you all.
