Hi everyone hope you’re all as well as possible

I have been taking letrozole with Prostap and Abemaciclib since Jan / Feb

Mu question is mainly about letrozole I have been trying to figure out the best way to take it , brand / time of day etc . Well that worked somewhat for a while but now the side effects are getting worse , my joints feel ruined , every part of me hurts , my joints are very painful , especially my knees and I wear a wrist support now too

Does this sound familiar to anyone , is it normal for the SE to get worse after this amount of time ? I’m in my forties but I feel so much older and it’s dragging me down . So do I try and stick it out hoping things will calm down or should I ask to be swapped to another AI ?

Love and support to all xx

  • I took it for two years. Had all your symptoms   Rang breastcare said I needed a break and try something else. Tamoxifen.  Tried it felt worse.  So I have gone back on the devil I know.  I have also tried Anastrozole   Don’t know whether there is an alternative.  You can read on here lots of women have no side effects but a lot of women have same as us   Only 8 years to go !!!!

  • Hi Dollydimple

I found my hands were so stiff with swollen fingers in the mornings after about 6months of Letrozole. Also had the knees and feet aches.

When I mentioned to my onc about the hands and that it had struck me that I would not be able to drive in the mornings, she switched me to Examestane. I actually didn't ask her if I could switch. It took a wash-out interval of about 6 weeks or so to improve.

I still have a little bit of the knee & ankle aches to start off with in the morning, but not so bad and I can certainly say that the hands are massively improved. Dr said each of the AIs have their own side-effects and that while she couldn't guarantee improvement, it was worth a try. I think it is about 18 months now since I changed over and I am glad that I did.

There is no harm in asking for a change. Exemestane works in a different way.

I would be too scared to stop the tabs. So onward and upward.

    Good luck

  • Wish they could just give us an injection once a month

  • Hi

I've been on Letrozole for 10 months now. I have numb fingers and toes each morning for some reason and also constant ache from the hips down but have been told by my oncologist that its one of the side effects Shrug tone3 xx

  • Hi

I've been on Letrozole for 12 months I've had to take a short break twice due to painful knees wrists fingers and ribs I'm very tired and can't sleep and have many hot flushes a day ike you I feel really old and it's getting me down I've been offered Tamoxifen but it's not as effective for post menopausal patients I've been told I've tried different brands but no real difference I'm looking at taking it for another 9 years !

  • I have all the same symptoms as you and switched to exemstance about a week ago so too early to tell yet. I thought it was worth a try and I can always go back to Letrozole if it’s worse.

  • Hi Got This

Give the exemestane a chane. For me it was a few weeks before the letrozele effects left me. Definitely this is a better option for me.

    Good luck
