Wondering if anyone can help..

Diagnosised in Nov 22. Lobular BC ER +

Dec 22 had clear CT Scan.
February 23 had a lumpectomy with full auxilliar node clearance.
Pathology from this was 30mm ( not clearly detected,)  area of disease - multi focal with NO clear margins.
24 nodes removed 14 positive.
Further ops delayed as Chemo to Start immediately.
Finished 8 rounds of dense dose Chemo  June
July 27th ...Single mastectomy with DIEP flap reconstruction

(15 rounds of 3 field Radiotherapy to start September
Zoledexand Letrozole)

Pathology results .....

In tissue removed in mastectomy a further 17mm area of disease....

No response to Chemo Confused

I know Lobular doesn't respond well to Chemo and medical team were not overly surprised but nevertheless highly disappointed.

Question...

IF any of the 14 postive nodes leaked any cancer into lymphatic system...are these cells also likely to be unresponsive to the Chemo???

My team have said they have thrown everything at it BUT I am at HIGH risk of reoccurrence  - the next 18 months to 3 yrs ....very critical

Has anyone had similar experience.or able to explain further

Thank you Blush

  • Hello Fly Away

Sorry to hear about your experiences and that you don't think that the chemo has worked. Good that you are about to start radiotherapy and the zoladex and the Letrozole. I read somewhere that more ladies worldwide have been saved by Letrozole than by chemo -not sure if this is 100% correct tho.

When I asked my oncologist about prognosis, she put information about my cancer type and my age etc. into her computer. She was able to produce survival curves which showed the added benefit for me of each of the successive layers of treatment. This test has a name, but chemo-brain me can't remember it... maybe Oxford or Cambridge something. There will be folk who come on here who will know. It would be worthwhile you asking about this. For me, I think that the chemo only attributed for about 4% of my survival probability, so while every % is important, it was not the only or even the biggest effect.

Thinking about you during this difficult time. I hope that you can get some reassurances about the effectiveness of your radiotherapy, the zoladex and the Letrozole all together.

    All the best

  • Hi …. Sorry it’s not a perfect path for you, we share some similarities
I’m also lobular EP+ diagnosed Jan 24, lumpectomy in Feb with 2 tumours & 27 lymph nodes removed- 24 were positive  Dizzy face

had FEC-T chemo  then more surgery as no clear margins from one of the squatting blighters

now got it all ( had results today ) but got lymphoedema in breast so waiting another 8 wks before radiotherapy starts

seeing oncologist next week to start hormone therapy

The team tell me that chemo & radio are belt & braces but my best friend will be the targeted hormone therapy

they aren’t worried really about the BC , it’s those pesky lymph nodes & where they may have helped the cancer  travel to. The chemo should have really helped stop cancer moving in elsewhere in my body

i know I will never be given the all clear but that’s ok as we are in management & I feel absolutely fine . I have a great team & can ask them anything….stupid or not, hope you have that support with yours?

there is also the MacMillan helpline you can call if you want more answers but I would avoid google as it’s a 1 way path to misery & confusion!

please keep your head & spirits up & let me know how it goes

  • Thank you   wow dont often meet someone who can trump my 14 nodes and so convincingly Wink

Yes - we seem very similar.

it's definitely a waiting game  - but like you I am young ( ish) fit and healthy....very much the way I intend to stay !!

  • Good morning

The name of that tool came to me in the night NHS Predict developed by Cambridge University. You need to be with your oncologist to fill it in and understand the inferances you can and cannot make.

Hope today is a better day
