Hi.. I am home from having my lumpectomy and sentinel node biopsy op today. My surgeon said it all went well. Better than I expected. It’s worse in your head, than it actually is. I was lucky to be first down to theatre, which was good, less time to think about it all. Have to say everyone was lovely and really took care of us all. There were 3 ladies on my ward, one having exactly the same op and another lady an eye op. Overall, was more worried about being put out, than the op to be honest. But I was fine, and woke up in the recovery room, which is the first time I have, after an op. I was relieved. Silly I know, but it is strange the things you worry more about. Had to have oxygen for a few hours after, but all was ok in the end. I am asthmatic, so put it down to that. We all went home about tea time which was good. Feel a bit sore and tired, but am able to move my arm ok, better than I thought I would. Might be a bit different tomorrow, but will do the exercises recommended. Results of biopsy should be in 2-3 weeks time. So fingers crossed for that.
Wonderful news snd glad all went well. So nice to be home to recover and take it easy. I had lumpectomies on both breasts but No sentinel node biopsy as one was DCIS snd the other stage 1 3mm tumor and I am over 70 so not needed. Recovery was good and then onto radiation and now Anastrazole so happy to be at this stage. Have my 2nd mammogram this month post treatment so always get a little nervous.
So glad you are home and healing. Hugs to you.

Thank you Barbara. Yes, it is lovely to be home and fussed over by hubby. Hoping recovery goes well, and can get back to normal. I am glad your op went well too. How did you find the radiotherapy? Mine will not be until poss, end of October. Not sure if I will be on Anastrazole or Letrozole. Not looking forward to the hot flushes again. Only just got rid of them! But a small price to pay. Wish you all the best and a good result from your 2nd mammogram. Hugs x
Actually I was more worried about the radiation than anything but it was not an issue. Had 16 treatments to left and right and an extra 5 boosts to the right tumor bed. This was just before the shortened radiation protocol complete results were released in the US. I am fair skinned and prone to atopic dermatitis so was very faithful about moisturizing. My nipples did get sore for about a week or so at the beginning of treatment but it went away. Had very little redness and a little itching now and then and used hydrocortisone with great results. Once I got the ok from radiologist 3 weeks post radiation I started breast massage and did it daily for a year. Breasts are nice and smooth and soft. No hardening. I also was not fatigued during radiation but everyone is different so just need to get sleep, eat well, hydrate, walk and moisturize . That is what I think helps and a good mental attitude. The ups and downs are expected but get better with time. We are resilient for sure.

Thank you Barbara again, for the info. Will just see how it goes with the radiotherapy, I think I only have a 5 day course. As you say ups and downs but staying positive about it all. Best wishes to you x
It's such a relief when the op is over, huge build up. Now the long wait but lots to occupy yourself with. Arm exercises so important. I had 30 nodes removed and 1 had cancer in it. I had a lumpectomy and had adequate margins.
My op was in Dec, the 3 wks wait for results felt like forever. I had 5 days of radiotherapy. Finished that veg of March. Each stage is all you can focus on, but remember you will be like us, on the other side of it.
Did my cancer challenge on Sat, danced and paraded with Marta Scott Dance Company in Pride. I told myself in Dec if I didn't need chemo I would do it. The storm when we were waiting on Hove Lawns to start was hideous. The crowds waiting along the road were amazing, waiting in the rain for us all to appear. Loved it.
Hi, Sabrina22, yes the build up and the waiting are the worse bits. But relieved when it’s over. I am doing the exercises daily which I do feel helps a lot. 30 lymph nodes are a lot to have removed, but you have done so well. Well done and congratulations for doing the dancing in the Pride parade. You looked amazing. Especially with the weather, it was horrendous wasn’t it. But it looked so much fun. I would love to do that too. Here’s to getting to the other side as you say
