Is anyone taking Anastrozole experiencing hip pain like me? The right side of my hip hurts when I walk or sit. Has your doctor recommended something to you? Do you think it is due to Anastrozole?

  • Hello there Giovanna,  I am taking Anastrazole and am on my 15th month.  So far doing pretty well but have had some stiffness in my left hip from time to time and muscle aches in my thighs.  For me exercise and stretching exercises really help and keeping active.  I always do some stretching in bed soon after I wake up and that helps jump start my day.
Seems like these hormone blockers affect so much as estrogen is essential for so many functions.  Not an easy pill to take.  Hope you feel better.

  • Hi Giovana, I've been on Anastrozole for 2 weeks now and wake each day feeling 20 years older than I used to! I have osteoarthritis in my knee anyway, and I'm feeling like the Anastrozole has made my whole body feel worse. I'm trying to counter it with exercise and ibruprofen if it's bad, plus zero alcohol and i've changed to an anti-inflammatory diet. I've read a lot about it and it seem it might improve if I stick with it for 3 months. I'll give it a go before I ask to try another drug, but I do feel for you.

  • Hola bárbara,
My physical therapist recommended that I buy a cane to use when walking. To be honest, it's the only thing I feel capable of doing. I also have numbness in my hands and feet that started after the chemo. I finished my radiotherapy treatment in November of last year and these problems are still there. I also started with pain in my left shoulder and over time it also appeared in my right shoulder. In September they will do a ray on my hip and my right shoulder. It was frustrating to receive the result of the left shoulder a few days ago since it says that "I have nothing" and that my problem of lumbar scoliosis "is not anything significant either". I will contact the Cancer Center next week to find out what they think. Also, although it is frustrating, I will try to make an appointment with my GP again because I had told him about the pain that I have. It is not nice that I post my result stating that "this is nothing". I send you a big hug and thank you for sharing your experience. It makes me feel accompanied.

  • Hola Ellis123I feel the same. I feel like they took 20 years of my life. I try to stay positive and carry on with my normal life. That is, I try not to let pain invade my state of mind. It's hard, I know. I have an osteophyte on the vertebra of my spine that is exactly at the level of the back of my neck. It looks like a big hump. My physical therapist at the Cancer Center said not to worry because it must be fat accumulated there. When I showed it to my GP she said that it is caused by osteoarthritis. I also suffer from lumbar scoliosis. Trust me when I tell you that it doesn't feel like hard grease when touched. This feels more like a deformation coming from my spine. I will have to make an appointment with the GP next week because I was very frustrated that the x-rays they also did on my spine showed that "I don't have anything significant in my spine." This seems to be a joke, but it is what I read in the result that was sent to me by text message. I, too, am sometimes tempted to talk to my oncologist and ask him to change my anastrozole, but when I started to feel discomfort, he told me this directly: This is the best medicine for your treatment. I know it's strong, but this is the best there is, you can't stop taking it. Thanks for sharing your experience with me. Believe me I understand you and I feel very understood by you and very accompanied by you. I also don't drink any alcohol and I always try to eat as healthily as possible by including vegetables and fruits in my diet. I also drink a lot of water which was never to my liking. I only hike with my husband, which is the only thing I feel capable of doing. I do my best. A big hug full of love for you.
